New Year – new resolutions, new plans, new dreams.

This year I decided to involve my business in adding value to other people’s lives by donating a portion of my monthly profits to charity.  I enjoy working with customers and help them discover their assets, unique values and personal voice – it’s a truly rewarding process. Making a difference and adding value are my goals for 2017 and because Halftone Studio is a big part of my life, I decided to use this opportunity and make it serve yet another purpose. “Making a Difference” is a small project which – starting from January 2017 – involves donating a portion of my monthly earrings to charity and featuring each charity I’m donating to so that my readers and customers can learn more about their work and problems being addressed.

I decided to launch this project because I believe a business (no matter how big or small) should not only be focused on profits but also contributing –  by donating money, things or time. I’m also hoping this will inspire you to think how can YOUR business make a difference. You don’t need to make millions (I certainly don’t) in order to contribute. Donating unused things or volunteering is a great place to start.

January donation goes to Link to hope – charity established in 1991 and dedicated to rebuilding lives and communities in Eastern Europe by supporting Education and Social Care projects in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria. “It was still snowing as we arrived at a river bank. Here lived 3 families, living in 2 houses on the other side of the river. One of the families father had previously had a stroke and was paralysed. Once they had thanked us for the shoeboxes, they went to return to their homes and there was only one way to do that. The sight of them crossing over the river clutching parcels was quite something. They had to jump from one slippery stone to the next without falling into the river”

We couldn’t quite imagine how they were doing this every day and the risks the children especially were taking of possibly falling in the freezing water. They were all so sure footed and as you can see even the large brown boxes that your shoeboxes are delivered in was joyfully taken to be used to insulate one of the houses from the biting cold.

the brief

Trellis is a retail company specialising in high quality home and beauty products inspired by nature. Their subscription – based service includes premium personal care products and home care products: body line including bath and body products, home line including detergents, cleaners. Company mission is to protect the balance of our bodies to preserve health, in particular for fertility and hormonal wellness. Trellis promotes reductions of toxic chemicals in our daily home environments and our personal environments (toxins entering our bodies).

Brand’s target market is educated women (20s-40s) looking for a premium product that will be healthy for them and their families.  Although women are be the primary decision makers, the family surrounding the decision maker will use the products as well so it was essential to create a more gender-neutral look.

The look and feel of the brand is defined by sophisticated and timeless palette. Muted greys, beiges, soft browns, off whites and earthy tones bring a cosy yet elegant look. An oriental-inspired turquoise accent breaks the scheme to create a fresh and vibrant feel.

The brands are often global and new ones are forming all the time with designers starting up so it’s important to invest in a branding which reflects the personality of a business, it’s quality and values while remaining timeless.

YMK Designs is a company specialising professional makeup for weddings, events, editorials & film. YMK Designs addresses females, brides, including asian brides, looking for professional wedding makeup in Philadelphia, New York & New Jersey as well as fashion magazines, TV & film directors. Design a high-end makeup artist’s brand that could compete in the current market.

Working from sketches, we created a clean design with a monogram, inspired by oriental painting signatures. Combining timeless grey and gentle rose gold foil sheen, the design evokes a classical sense of glamour. Colour palette includes muted blacks, warm greys, nude beiges and blush pinks as well as hand drawn florals paired with subtle watercolour washes. This muted and classy palette allows the portfolio to stand out without being overwhelming.

YMK Designs online portfolio was made in light, clean style with various watercolour accents. Modern sans-serif fonts combined with simple thumbnail galleries and instagram feed make the website very user friendly and easy to navigate. Animated backgrounds and sliders add a nice, interactive touch.
