Giadora Hair Boutique is a new brand specialising in high quality hair. As the hair market is quite saturated, the main objective was to create a branding which speaks about the unique selling point – the product quality and value. Our goal was to reflect Giadora’s core values as well as educate consumers about the value and quality of the product which is what sets the brand apart from its competitors.

The brand is addressing confident, beautiful and sophisticated women who love fashion and beauty and know the value of a quality product, but who don’t take themselves too seriously.

I’m happy to announce this month’s donation goes to Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants – JCWI – which is an independent national charity established in 1967. Their mission is to promote justice, fairness and equality in immigration and asylum law and policy: https://www.jcwi.org.uk

JCWI produces written materials such as briefings, policy articles, a quarterly bulletin and “The Immigration, Nationality and Refugee Law Handbook”, which is an essential reference resource for all legal practitioners, students and advisors.

JCWI is unique in that it is almost the only national organisation in the field that has never sought nor accepted central government funds, and can truly claim to be independent and free from any government influence.

JCWI is needed now more than ever, operating in an environment of highly charged immigration and race debate.

You can donate to JCWI here: https://www.justgiving.com/jointcouncil-welfareofimmigrants

the brief

Sam, the owner of Very Vintage Designs is a regular customer of Halftone Studio and I’m proud to say we’ve been working together on quite a few exciting projects including a website design completed several years ago. Thanks to having a professional online shop with integrated wholesale options, she attracted lots of customers and you can now find her products in 21 US states as well as overseas. With over 3000 instagram followers the brand is now widely recognised for its unique designs and quality products.

Sam’s website needed updating to accommodate new trends (such as instagram gallery) and growing popularity of mobile devices and Retina display screens.

As we already had most graphic elements designed, there were only a few extra added: a full-width slider and a long “find us in” collage on the home page.  The existing slider was enlarged, moved down and made into an interactive “look book” with several icons linking to product categories. New shopping cart graphic was also added and the entire shop page expanded to offer a better shopping experience on large screens while being able to smoothly scale down on smaller devices. I also added a matching newsletter popup window with custom graphics and a signup form.

Each graphic was custom designed to match Very Vintage’s aesthetic – a fun, quirky and colourful look – as unique as their products.

Very Vintage website is a simple, user friendly and fun place to shop for pet accessories. It offers wholesale within the same shop page – discounted prices are displayed only for logged in, pre-approved wholesale users. It also incorporates a wishlist, a review system, order tracking and social sharing.

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” – Charles Dickens

New Year – new resolutions, new plans, new dreams.

This year I decided to involve my business in adding value to other people’s lives by donating a portion of my monthly profits to charity.  I enjoy working with customers and help them discover their assets, unique values and personal voice – it’s a truly rewarding process. Making a difference and adding value are my goals for 2017 and because Halftone Studio is a big part of my life, I decided to use this opportunity and make it serve yet another purpose. “Making a Difference” is a small project which – starting from January 2017 – involves donating a portion of my monthly earrings to charity and featuring each charity I’m donating to so that my readers and customers can learn more about their work and problems being addressed.

I decided to launch this project because I believe a business (no matter how big or small) should not only be focused on profits but also contributing –  by donating money, things or time. I’m also hoping this will inspire you to think how can YOUR business make a difference. You don’t need to make millions (I certainly don’t) in order to contribute. Donating unused things or volunteering is a great place to start.

link to hope

January donation goes to Link to hope – charity established in 1991 and dedicated to rebuilding lives and communities in Eastern Europe by supporting Education and Social Care projects in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria. They run several projects such as Home Rebuilding, Parenting Courses, Homework Clubs and Shoebox Appeal – you can find out more about their mission and actions here: Link to hope website or Facebook

“It was still snowing as we arrived at a river bank. Here lived 3 families, living in 2 houses on the other side of the river. One of the families father had previously had a stroke and was paralysed. Once they had thanked us for the shoeboxes, they went to return to their homes and there was only one way to do that. The sight of them crossing over the river clutching parcels was quite something. They had to jump from one slippery stone to the next without falling into the river”

We couldn’t quite imagine how they were doing this every day and the risks the children especially were taking of possibly falling in the freezing water. They were all so sure footed and as you can see even the large brown boxes that your shoeboxes are delivered in was joyfully taken to be used to insulate one of the houses from the biting cold.

What is the PANTONE Colour of the Year?

A symbolic colour selection; a colour snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architecture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront – it is an omnipresent hue around the world.

A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.

Nature’s neutral, PANTONE Greenery is a versatile “trans-seasonal” shade that lends itself to many colour combinations. As displayed in the 10 palettes below, Greenery is paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallics and even the enduring presence of PANTONE Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. These palettes easily cross over fashion, beauty, product and graphic design applications.
